Beautiful Thing

This has been the best day ever! In honor of the Spring-like weather we’ve been having, today I donned a light jacket that I hadn’t worn since the Fall. I put it on, reached my hand into the pocket and pulled out $3! I LOVE finding money in clothes you haven’t worn for months! I took my new found treasure, went to Starbucks and ordered a Toffee Nut Latte! I was pleasantly surprised when a reader emailed me last week to tell me they do, in fact, exist and that I wasn’t crazy. The verdict? So rich and delicious – like butter pecan ice cream. A new fave for sure! The fabulousness continued when I got home and was greeted by this beautiful bouquet of daffodils sitting on my front porch from my Mom! I mean…!!   Isn’t that the nicest thing ever? Luck and kindness is just overflowing today, I can hardly stand it.   Did you perform a random act of kindness today? Tell us about it! My mom and I went to the indoor mall today to walk around. It's a beautiful day outside...sunny and nice except for one thing. The WIND. Whoa, is the wind strong. Brayden has never been on the little rides at the local malls, but mom wanted to see how he'd do...and boy did he love them!Just like his momma...we love to drive!We're back home now and working on operation Sippy Cup. Today he has decided to at least carry it around and pretend to drink from it, so that's an improvement. After his nap he wanted a snack, but ended up eating grilled chicken, mac and cheese, yogurt and chocolate cheerios. Little man was HUNGRY! After doing the first Pictures with attitude Theme Tuesday I knew that I would have to do a number of follow ups since it was so well received. During the last month I have joined blogcatalog, bloglog, blogfrog and blog-fuck-knows-what-else. My password is short and simple, so it's not a big deal to jump in. I learned the whole new vocabulary and met all sorts of good and bad, beautiful and ugly people.The most amazing thing though is to watch people from all over the world coming to my site. According to Google Analytics so far this humble site is visited by 179 people from 36 countries. Well it's not entirely correct because I myself visited it from few different computers in two different countries, but anyway. It was designed to prepare women to run for office.  I attended to get a better understanding of politics as I am working on a campaign to elect my girlfriend to the house of representatives.  I enjoyed the conference and learned so much more than I had ever anticipated. So much of it could be applied to every day life and business but there was one thing I totally disagreed with. The presenter asked if anyone had a blog, mine was the only hand waving proudly in the air, 50 or so women. I was told it was detrimental to my character and a complete waste of my time. Well obviously she has never experienced the true friendships and undying support shared in blogland. I have been a bad expat. In the year and some odd months since I left my home country to start my life in a new one, I had not read one single solitary expat book. There is certainly no shortage of them, I just had this attitude that if it wasn't based on or written by an expat in the Netherlands, I wasn't going to waste my time on it. Why should I care about what it's like to live in a country I'm not living in? Yes, I know what you're thinking and yes I agree and am appropriately ashamed of myself.However, my schoonouders (lit: clean or beautiful parents; meaning in-laws) gave me a copy of Stephen Clarke's A Year in the Merde as a Sinterklaas gift this past year and I finally gave in and read the thing. So glad I did! Although a work of fiction, Clarke has clearly lived in France and experienced the country, the city of Paris and it's people to the max. It is delightfully funny and a true account of a foreigner's experiences and observations. The story focuses on Englishman Paul West
